  • Named South African and SADC South Regional Winner in the Agencies and Regulatory Authorities sector of CEO Global’s Titans – Building Nations 2015 Awards, July 2015


  • Winner of the Marcom African Leadership Award, in Mauritius in December 2012, presented by the World CSR Day and the Stars of the Industry Group, in partnership with the World Brand Congress and the World HRD Congress.

  • Got Anglo American to sponsor South Africa’s Bid for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and, as a Member of the Board of the 2010 Bid Company, travelled with Danny Jordaan to campaign for South Africa’s bid

  • First African CEO of the Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of Southern Africa, First African Editor and first black Political Editor of a formerly white newspaper in South Africa 

  • Finalist in the Emma Awards for Journalism in the UK, May 2002

  • Awarded the Eisenhower Exchange Fellowship to spend two months travelling and meeting professional counterparts in the US, March 30 – May 24 2002

  • Awarded six-month Fellowship of the European Institute for the Media in Manchester in January 1992

  • Finalist in the VO Award for African Literature, 1989 and 1993
