Kaizer Nyatsumba: All Sides of the Story
Kaizer Nyatsumba, Political and Executive Editor of The Star, has followed South Africa’s political transition very closely over the past six-and-a-half years. His keen and analytical mind, coupled with his attention to detail, have allowed him to dissect the most complex political developments in the country and to render them accessible to the greater public through his syndicated column ‘One In Your Eye’. All Sides of the Story is a collection of these columns, which capture vignettes of South African political life between January 1990 – a mere few weeks before FW de Klerk’s historic February 2 speech – through to the mid-term of President Nelson Mandela’s government.
This book will be of great interest not only to historians, students of South African politics and the politicians whose actions are captured and analyzed in it, but also to all South Africans who have sufficient appreciation of the country’s historic transition.
Kaizer Nyatsumba was born in White River and started his journalism career as freelance reporter while still at school. While studying at the University of Zululand he wrote for the Zululand Observer and while he studied at Georgetown University in Washington DC he wrote for the Georgetown Hoya. He is a graduate of both Georgetown University and the Newspaper Institute of America. Nyatsumba received the Helen Suzman Leadership award from the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1992 and for four months was a Research Fellow at the European Institute for the Media, and then attached to the University of Manchester. In 1996 he was one of seven senior South African journalists who were chosen by Independent Newspapers for a special Leadership and Management Course offered jointly by the Harvard Business School and the Nieman Foundation in Boston, USA.
In addition to his weekly column, Kaizer Nyatsumba is a frequent lecturer on politics, a radio commentator and a correspondent. He is also the author of four books: When Darkness Falls, A Vision of Paradise, In Love with a Stranger and Umlozi
